Natasha K. Bowen, PhD., Co-P.I. and the NC-ACE’s Director of School Evaluation
Dr. Bowen is an Associate Professor in the UNC-CH School of Social Work.
She is a national expert on the measurement of risk and protective factors in children and adolescents. She has conducted numerous studies of risk, protection, and outcomes in seriously emotionally disturbed children and adolescents for the state of North Carolina, and has developed a multiple-source assessment of social environmental risk and protective factors for use in elementary schools (an elementary version of the SSP). She has extensive experience working with schools to link profiles of risk and protection to appropriate evidence-based practices, and has used funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to greatly expand an online, publicly available database of effective universal and targeted interventions.
